Priya Anand: Little Miss Sunshine

She did not have a fairytale beginning in tinsel town but now, things are looking rosy for the beautiful Priya Anand.

The model-turned-actress' claim to fame in Tamil was the melodious Yuvan number Edho Seigirai... which was picturised on her and Jai in Vaamanan. The song became a chartbuster despite the film turning out to be lukewarm at the box-office. But audiences still identify it as a Priya song, which has worked to her advantage. She is better known in Telugu by her character name Ratna Prabha in Shekhar Kammula's Leader that made her a star. Though her parents are settled in
New York, the actress now shuttles between Chennai and Hyderabad doing films in both Tamil and Telugu.

Priya's smile and the characters she has portrayed in the four films that she has done so far mark her as the perfect girl next door. Currently, the actress is all excited about her new bilingual film in Tamil and Telugu titled 180, directed by ad filmmaker-turned-director Jayendra. The film has her opposite Siddharth and Nitya Menon, and two schedules of the film have been completed in Hyderabad and
Malaysia. When CT met her for an exclusive interview, Priya was packing her bags for the last one month schedule of the film in the US.

Priya Anand gushes, "180 is the best thing to have happened to me. I'm working with a terrific team of director Jayendra who has done over 500 ad films and Siddharth, a natural performer, and a new music director Sharath, who is a combination of Ilayaraja and Rahman." She is reluctant to talk about the story line, other than saying, "It is a love story with a difference and may change the way you look at life." She's more forthcoming about the character she plays in the film. "I play a little miss sunshine. My character is based in the US and Jayendra's script is amazing. I'd say it is the most important film in my life."

About her hero Siddharth, Priya waxes eloquent, stating, "We had so much fun shooting for the film. I learned a lot from Siddu on the nuances of filmmaking." Priya also denies rumours that she had problems with Nithya Menon, saying, "Nithya is a focussed actress. There were no issues between us and our characters do not meet in the film!" On why she is not doing an ultra glam role, Priya shoots back, "The audiences see me as a girl next door. As far as glamour goes, I think Sridevi or Vidya Balan in an elegant sari look more ravishing than actresses who wear itsy-bitsy clothes!"
